Latest Podcast

My latest podcast episode.

In this episode, I’m joined by Yosi Amram, Ph.D., who is a licensed clinical psychologist, a CEO leadership coach, and an author. With engineering degrees from MIT, an MBA from Harvard, and a Ph.D. in Psychology from Sofia University, he is a pioneering researcher in the field of spiritual intelligence, whose research has received over 1000 citations.

We discuss the concept of spiritual intelligence and its impact on our personal and professional lives. Yosi shares that spiritual intelligence is the ability to embody spiritual qualities, such as purpose, service, gratitude, humility, and integrity.

Finally, we focus on discussing purpose and whether purpose is something we find, discover, or is innate within us all.

Overall, I was and am fascinated by the concept of spiritual intelligence and implore you to learn about it for yourself by watching or listening to this episode wherever you get your podcasts.

1 Insight To Consider

Thought-provoking insights to think about.

Oftentimes not being our best selves is linked to some kind of insecurity…

Think about all of the times you’ve reacted emotionally without any conscious thought, or thought something that’s considered not nice (we all have those thoughts) or any time where on reflection you’ve realised‘Oh, I wasn’t my best self in that situation.’

Now, consider the underlying reasons why that might be the case…

For example, when I’m in situations where I feel I don’t have a choice (we all always have a choice by the way–I’ve recently learned this but that’s a topic for another day) and maybe feel like I’m being pushed into a corner, I feel myself changing and can either “sink” meaning I give in, become a “yes” man, and neglect what I truly want in this situation, or I go the other way and react emotionally depending on the environment I’m in…

But, either way, I’m not being and/or living in accordance with my best and highest self.

I have insecurities around control, choice, and being able to make my own decisions. And, as I’ve realised it’s linked to a core value of freedom–but not feeling free.

There are many other examples I could have given. The underlying message here is that when we’re not our best selves, it’s linked to some kind of insecurity and the way to overcome our insecurities is to face them!

This can be daunting so let’s start with the first step which is to identify and name our insecurities…

By starting here we bring consciousness to them so we start to see how they show up in our lives. From here, we can make gradual changes and dive deeper into them over time.

This is one of the purposes of all personal growth and spiritual practice…

To identify our insecurities, and the dark places within ourselves and bring light to them.

This process takes time. But, as the saying goes… “When is the best time to plant a tree? Twenty years ago. The second-best time is today.”

Meaning that yeah, starting this self-discovery process 20, 10, 5, or even a year ago would have been ideal. But, that time has gone. You can’t get it back. All you have is now and what you can do today and that means to start today!

1 Idea To Act On

Simple actions to improve your health & life.

At some stage in our lives, we will have all activities, tasks, and/or things we don’t like to do, don’t want to do, and drain our energy with no to little upside. The greatest insight I’ve learned here is to find a way to stop doing them ASAP!

Our energy is our most valuable resource and therefore, if we’re consistently doing things that drain our energy we’re not going to be our best selves.

This does come with a couple of caveats…

For example, most people don’t like to exercise. But, we all know that exercise is important for our health, well-being, and longevity. So, am I saying to stop exercising?

No, far from it!

But, using exercise as an example it could be that you find a form of exercise that you enjoy more than other types and can do consistently to reap the benefits.

When it comes to the job that you hate, or people you hang out with that drain your energy, or those tedious tasks that you dislike—I believe it’s about finding ways to stop doing them, or creating systems that make them more enjoyable!

At the end of the day, we’re only here once—well at least in the form of being human so we might as well enjoy our time on planet earth while we can, don’t you think?!

Again, that’s not to say that life should be easy. Or, we should never do things that we don’t like or don’t want to do.

But, we often where it like a badge of honour and repeatedly do these things for decades and wonder why our lives aren’t getting “better” and we don’t feel like our best selves…

So, my idea today is to pickone activity, task, and/or thing that you don’t like to do but do it regularly and just decide right here, right now to stop doing it! 🙅‍♂️

And, to replace it with something that you do enjoy…

For example, maybe you don’t like grocery shopping multiple times a week so you’re going to do one shop per week on a [enter day] and that’s it. You’re going to use the time you’ll save to walk in nature, read a book, go to yoga, or any other activity that you enjoy more than the tedious repeated trips to the grocery store.

Right there, we have a new system—the day of the week you’re going grocery shopping to replace the time saved with something you enjoy.

It may seem small. But, I’ve found the smallest changes can lead to the biggest results.

So, what will yourone activity, task, and/or thing be?

Let me know by dropping me a message here.
